lok virsa, trade fair, pakisthan textile, textile newsThe National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa), which encourages art of producing traditional handicrafts and handlooms, is organizing a eight day exhibition cum fair titled, ‘Tana Bana’, which features master handloom weavers and their wares from around the country.

These master weavers, along with their handlooms will exhibit to the visitors, the traditional art of weaving designs on fabric on handloom machines. Along with these the fair will also showcase beautiful designed fabrics, traditional clothing and articles of clothing produced by these master weavers.

The objective of the expo is to bring forth to the urban dwellers, a demonstration on the traditional art of weaving on handlooms and also to show that traditional and modern art of weaving can be combined to produce beautiful patterns and designs. It will also encourage these weavers to adapt to modern designs and trends.

Apart from the above, this expo will provide the weavers a market to sell their produce directly to the end consumer without involving the middlemen, who have for centuries exploited these artisans, by paying them a pittance for their hard work of art. These weavers from rural backgrounds produce beautiful items from fabrics like cotton, silk and wool.
