Discussion Seminar On “Year of Natural Fibre 2009 & Environment Day” at SEU

A discussion seminar on “Intl Year of Natural Fiber 2009 & World Environment Day” was held at Southeast University,Dhaka.As Year-2009 is declared as “Intl Year of Natural Fibre” and Textile processing has an impact on global environment hence Dept. of Textile Engineering arranged this seminar on 5th July,World Environment Day.
In the seminar speakers discussed about the world environment and the impact of textile processing on environment.Some special points came out on how to minimize the pollutions.Though synthetic fibres are not biodegradable everybody emphasize on the use of ustainable natural fibres.

BKMEA president said that Dye House are using thousand s of litre water daily and release them untreated which makes our river waters polluted.He suggested that though it is costly to maintain ETP (Effluent treatment plant) for individual factories,it would be a good idea to set up some central ETP financed by govt.

Prof. Dr. M Shamsher Ali talked about the natural fibre Jute.He shared his experience with jute and showed an idea how we can replace synthetic polythene with this highly sustainable natural jute.He also mentioned that Jute bag will not only be environment friendly,it also will contribute a lot to our economy.
The discussion seminar came to an end by the assurance speech of Minister.
